The landscape is the bedrock of life. It is full of life, it provides opportunity for the sustenance of life. We consume its energy, harness its energy, we hide from its energy. And yet, like a terrible friend, we often overlook it. We'll forget to check in and see how it's been. We don't spend much time with it, except to take a quick photo, so we can pretend that we love it. But do we have deep knoweldge of the landscape around us? Do we observe it for patterns and changes? Do we know where the birds go in the storm? Do we know what the wind direction means for the weather? Do we know the patterns of the animals? Do we know which plants grow in the soil? (I don't - please teach me all the garden wisdom). I want to be a good friend, I want to understand what life is like for the landscape.
I'm a terrible friend
